3. DOMAINS AND WEBSITES

Domains

The first step that is necessary to take to have an online
presence and a consistent digital representation on the
internet is to have a website for your church or ministry.

A website is like owning your own piece of cyberspace. It
is where people on the internet can come to learn all about
you, your ministry or your church.

Domain Name:
You are going to need to choose a domain name for your
website for people to be able to find you online. Your domain
name is what people are going to type into their web browser
to find your site. Instead of typing a long string of numbers
called the IP address for your website Internet users can
easily access your website by typing your domain name.
Domain names are sometimes referred to as web addresses
-URL.

How it works
The domain name system {DNS) gives every server a
memorable and easy-to-spell address, The domain name
hides the IP address of the website. When you type in the
name of the website you want to visit the Domain Name
System (DNS) translates the domain name to an IP address
which typically has not only the domain name but also a
string of numbers that locate the web pages and the folders
being searched for.
